Activity Regulation ACTIVITY REGULATION: Inhibited by DTT, EDTA and L-cysteine, but not by the serine protease inhibitor PMSF. Activated by calcium, unaffected by magnesium, inhibited by zinc. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17306461}.

Enzyme Function FUNCTION: Snake venom zinc metalloprotease that hydrolyzes the alpha chain of fibrinogen (FGA) but not the beta or gamma chains. Has caseinolytic activity. Induces hemorrhage after intradermal injection into mice. Intramuscular injection into the gastrocnemius muscle of mice causes hemorrhage, edema, myonecrosis, increase in serum creatine kinase levels and multifocal lung hemorrhage. Inhibits collagen-induced platelet aggregation, but not thrombin- or ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17306461}.
Temperature Dependency BIOPHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES: Temperature dependence: Optimum temperature is 37 degrees Celsius with azocasein as substrate. Incubation at 55 degrees Celsius for 90 minutes reduces activity to 20% of its maximum. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17306461};
PH Dependency BIOPHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES: pH dependence: Optimum pH is 7.5 with azocasein as substrate. Incubation at a pH of below 6.0 or above 9.5 results in an abrupt decrease in activity. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17306461};
